Bradford on Avon is a small attractive Wiltshire town of Saxon origin. For six centuries the town was a centre of the woollen industry and many of its Cotswold Stone buildings were originally spinning and weaving cottages.

Whether you are looking for an evening in the archetypal cosy English pub or looking for something a little more sophisticated you will find a wide choice both inside and outside the town.



The George has a reputation as a music pub with plenty of regular gigs and is the main sponsor of the annual summer Woolley Music Festival. The George is very much a pub for drinking and socialising and is a very popular spot for the locals, visitors and visiting bands. However, be warned that no food is served.



Somewhat different to the other popular pubs in Bradford on Avon is the Castle Inn, a beautiful freehouse pub featured in the Good Beer Guide. Five minutes from the centre of the town it also provides good quality boutique accommodation with stunning views across the town and beyond. From morning 'til night, The Castle is at your service, whether for morning coffee, light lunch, 3-course dinner or just a pint of local beer. The restaurant is split into two areas and seats a total of up to 90 diners. This is a Flatcappers pub which was refurbished in 2007 and has since established a high reputation.



West of the town at Avoncliff is the Cross Guns, a 16th century inn on the canal towpath by Avoncliff station between Bath and Bradford on Avon. It has idyllic riverside pub gardens where in the summer months you can enjoy a sumptuous barbecue whilst enjoying panoramic views of the canal crossing the river. Child and dog friendly the inn offers B&B; accommodation with views across the Cotswold hills.



Less than a mile north of the town is The Plough at the village of Bradford Leigh and close to the Wiltshire Cycle Route. This family-run pub offers accommodation at very reasonable rates and a large selection of home cooked meals in the restaurant using local produce wherever possible.




Bradford on Avon is a particularly good centre for visiting the Roman city of Bath, the Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Avebury and Stonehenge Circles, and a whole multitude of ancient sites scattered throughout Wiltshire. Castle Combe, the National Trust owned village of Lacock, stately homes of Longleat and Bowood House are also within easy reach of the town.
