Golf in Wiltshire
Golf in Wiltshire offers courses that are a great challenge for all levels of players from the low handicappers to the fair weather players.
Wiltshire is truly an enchanting area to play the game of golf. Blending into the environment it is often difficult to detect where the countryside ends and the golf courses begin with facilities contributing to and enhancing this ‘rural’ feel.
A beautiful example of one of our finest Wiltshire golf courses is the Bowood Golf and Country Club. A championship standard course, set in the heart of Bowood Park, this course was voted one of the Top Ten New Courses in Britain and Top Fifty Gold Destinations in Europe by Golf World Magazine. The course meanders effortlessly through 200 acres of mature woodland with cavernous bunkers and skillfully designed hillocks set amidst vast rolling greens all in perfect harmony with the Park. The demanding and challenging variety of holes with its array of tricky hazards will keep you focused and alert all the way round the full eighteen holes
Upavon Golf Club is a superb rural location high on Salisbury plain with fantastic views over the Vale of Pewsey and south across the county and claim they are ‘Wiltshire’s friendliest golf club’. On a clear day you can see the Alton Barns White Horse in the distance and the Salisbury Cathedral spire (the tallest in England) to the south. It also boasts one of the longest holes in the country, the thirteenth, and a gigantic 602 yards from tee to pin.
As our final example of Golf in Wiltshire we must mention the historic West Wilts course, a traditional member’s golf club on the edge of Warminster and Salisbury Plain. The West Wilts golf club, established in 1891, boasts a course designed by J.H.Taylor with fine fairways and greens. And at 200m offers superb views across the three counties of Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire.
