Longleat - Wiltshire

Longleat in Wiltshire is one of if not the most well known visitor destination in England.

Famous for its Safari Park this beautiful house is a must see for Wiltshire visitors. A fine example of Elizabethan architecture it is set in 900 acres of landscaped parkland with a further 8000 acres of woodland lakes and farmland which includes of course the world renowned Safari Park.

The Safari Park, established in 1966, was the first of its kind anywhere in the world. At that time allowing wild exotic animals to roam freely and confining visitors to their cars was very progressive and has revolutionised the way we now perceive and view captive animals.

As well as the House, Gardens and Safari Park there are many other attractions for all the family such as the Adventure Castle with bridges, nets, slides,, swings and things to climb through and crawl under, the Splashpad, a huge children’s play area, the Spiders Web, a climbing route for older children and for smaller children a miniature railway. There are many many more including a maze to get lost in. You can go fishing, walking through miles of woodland as well as visiting the House and Gardens themselves.

Animals roaming in the wild in the Safari Park include lions, tigers, giraffes, monkeys, wolves, camels and the rare white rhino.

Accommodation that is within easy reach of Longleat is mainly in the Warminster area where there is a good selection of B&Bs;, self catering or holiday cottages, small hotels and pubs with rooms.
