Self Catering Near Avebury - Wiltshire

Self catering near Avebury offers the visitor an opportunity to explore this unique, unspoilt and historical landscape.

The Avebury Stone Circle predates that of Stonehenge and in many respects is a much more interesting visit. Stonehenge being more well known than Avebury is visited by thousands upon thousands of people throughout the year. Avebury is a place where you can relax and not feel under any pressure. You are free to wander through this huge Stone Circle at your leisure. The added attraction is that part of the site is occupied by the village of Avebury and close to other Neolithic sites, notably Silbury, the West Kennet Long Barrow and the ancient Ridgeway. Close by is the medieval town of Marlborough with its shops, restaurants and pubs and well worth visiting. Or you can visit the Kennet Avon Canal a symbol of more modern history, walk or cycle the towpath or spend your day in the Savernake Forest which although privately owned is accessible to the public. There is plenty of interest in the area and you could start by viewing our fine selection of Wiltshire Videos on this site.

As the Stone Circle is located in a rather remote part of Wiltshire self catering accommodation is either available in rural farmstay or in the nearby towns and villages. The nearest town is Marlborough, about 15 minutes drive away and west of Avebury is Calne, one of the smaller towns of Wiltshire. The main population centre is Swindon, the largest conurbation in Wiltshire with the centres close to and north of the M4 London to Wales motorway.

Nearby Marlborough there is Browns Farm which has 3 self catering cottages available, Walnut Cottage, Dairy and Cherry Lodges.

A little to the south of Marlborough close to the Kennet and Avon Canal is Kestrel Cottage. This is an attractive holiday cottage opposite the canal outside Great Bedwyn, a delightful village on the banks of the canal, which can accommodate up to six adults.

Also well worth considering is the The Cottage Barn Annexe at Westcourt Farm, converted from one end of the old Stable range and linked to the Grade ll farmhouse. During summer you have access to the owners’ swimming pool or you can play tennis on the local court.

Other self catering near Avebury you might like to consider is Poulton Lodge offered at Poulton Farm. Poulton Farm is a working farm also close to Marlborough with a mix of beef sheep and arable. Sleeping up to five visitors the accommodations offered are a Finnish log cabin built from sustainable wood sources with spacious rooms and furnished to a high standard througout.
