Peace and Tranquillity
Peace and Tranquillity in Wiltshire is plentiful, with outstanding open countryside and pretty villages nestled amongst chalk hills relaxation comes naturally.
If you pay a visit to Stourhead House and Garden near Warminster you will find instant relaxation and any stresses of the day disappear. The House is a stunning 18th Century Palladium Mansion and its gardens are magnificent, one of the finest landscaped gardens of the world often referred to as ‘Paradise’. You will find classical features such as the Temple of Flora, the Pantheon, the Temple of Apollo and Gothic ruins to enhance the series of splendid and unexpected vistas. Whatever time of the year you visit Stourhead you will always be amazed at the splendour of its estate.
Tucked away in the heart of Bradford-On-Avon is the only Buddhist Monastery in Wiltshire. There are no signs to give it away and very few locals know it is there but find the white gates and you can pay a visit.
The Monastery was founded in 1980 in a former school building making The House of Inner Tranquillity no Tibetan style temple. The gardens are beautifully landscaped and only the occasional cross-legged Buddha tucked away suggests that this is a Buddhist Monastery.
The difference of this Monastery is that there is no chanting, no rituals, and no prostration to shrine or lighting of incense to the Buddha. They eat a normal western diet with no restrictions on food; they do not shave their heads nor wear orange robes.
For a DIY on serenity the House of Inner Tranquillity runs a series of six day and weekend residential retreats throughout the year. You will definitely have Peace and Tranquillity in this serene place.
