Stourhead Gardens are famed for their beauty. Landscaped in the 18th century with the lake, formed by damming a small stream, as the focal point this remarkable garden is a must. Although rhododendron displays in spring, azaleas in early summer and the spectacular autumn colours of the woodland surrounding the lake are the highlights of the year the garden is well worth visiting at any time.



The gardens are full of interest with numerous temples, follies and grottoes placed around the grounds. The house, also open to the public, is well worth visiting and this magnificent Palladian mansion contains a rich collection of heirlooms, furniture and paintings.

Most of the B&Bs; around the area are also within easy reach of that other famous attraction of Longleat House and Gardens.

The Spreadeagle Arms is a fine traditional 4star inn at Stourhead and only 150 metres from the gardens themselves. The inn offers five delightful bedrooms in a peaceful location. The inn was refurbished very recently.



In the town of Mere you will find the delightful Bed and Breakfast Castleton House. Five minutes from Stourhead and one minute from the main London to Cornwall A303 trunkroute. Off-street parking can be arranged



The Old Police House Mere – this lovely old Georgian home was a police house in Victorian times and offers 2 cosy bedrooms, one double and one twin.



Bed and breakfast near Stourhead and Longleat also includes those available around Warminster which is the main population centre in this part of Wiltshire.

Mill Farm B&B; at Horningsham offers a family room and two twins. Only one mile from Longleat and less than 15 minutes from Stourhead Gardens. A working farm, Mill Farm, also offers self-catering accommodation overlooking the Mill Pond



A little further east but within easy reach of Longleat and Stourhead Gardens is Crockerton House overlooking the Wylye Valley. This Grade II house, restored to its original splendour, dates from 1669 and was originally part of Lord Baths Longleat estate.
