This famous World Heritage is on the edge of military ranges and Salisbury Plain. The Stone Circle is remote and stands on a very exposed hillside. So you should ensure you are well wrapped before venturing near the stones as on all but the warmest of summers days there is often a cool breeze present

The nearest centre is the small country town of Amesbury less than ten minutes drive from the car-park at the monument site. There are other small villages scattered around, mainly along the Avon Valley and on the edges of Salisbury Plain.



The Fairlawn Hotel is a grade II listed fine Georgian townhouse, conveniently situated in Amesbury town centre a short distance from Stonehenge. Just off the A303 main London trunkroute makes The Fairlawn an ideal stopover for those travelling to the West Country, Devon and Cornwall.

The house still retains many of the original features including a wonderful curved staircase and a rare internal wind vane. Over the recent years the present owners have restored the house to some of its original glory and have completely refurbished the lounge and bar area, providing a beautiful and comfortable area for guests to relax in and browse through the library of guidebooks and local tourist information.

As well as bed and breakfast near Stonehenge being available at the main pubs and hotels there are several family run B&Bs; offering luxury accommodation in the town itself. Bill and Catherine Lockwood are also happy to accommodate well-behaved dogs (downstairs) and can provide stabling for horses. There is plenty of off-road parking available for those travelling with horsebox, boat or caravan. The farm not only makes an excellent stopping-off location but is the ideal centre for spending a few days exploring the attractions of Wiltshire, Stonehenge, the cathedral city of Salisbury and Wilton House to name but a few.



Rollestone Manor is an historic Grade II listed building close to Shrewton village and only five minutes drive from Stonehenge. All seven bedrooms are ensuite, furnished with antiques, and provide a high standard of comfort and quality whilst retaining a unique individuality of their own. Restaurant facilities are also available at the Manor.



Another grade II 17th century listed building bed and breakfast close to the village of Shrewton is Maddington House, the home of Dick and Joan Robathan. Maddington House provides high quality 4 star bed and breakfast and children over 7 years are made very welcome. Maddington House also has self-catering cottage accommodation available.



Less than 10 minutes drive from the circle itself is The Old Post House B&B; in Great Wishford, a village mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, just off the A36 about 5 miles northwest of Salisbury. The B&B; is in a 17th century light and airy building where you can be sure of a warm welcome from your host Paulene.
