Accommodation in Marlborough - Wiltshire

Accommodation in Marlborough is mostly small hotels, bed and breakfast and caravan sites.

In the heart of Wiltshire the town is on the old London to Bath coaching route. Mostly the hotels in the centre started out as coaching inns and some date back to the 16th century.

The Castle and Ball for example, in the centre of Marlborough, has its origins on the site where a coaching inn once stood. From 1745 till 1763 it was The Antelope and then was renamed the Castle and Ball, or possibly Bull. Some of its surviving timbers predate the Spanish Armada. Another coaching inn, the Lamb Inn was first established in 1672 also in the centre on The Parade. Today the inn offers three ensuite rooms in the main building with a further three at the back of the court yard, converted from the original stables.

There are many attractions close by, the Savernake Forest, the Kennet and Avon canal, and the Avebury Stone Circle. Avebury is a World Heritage site, less well known than Stonehenge in the south of the county which in many ways is much more interesting and attractive. There are many B&B;’s in the town and the surrounding area. Particularly attractive are those close to the Kennet and Avon Canal. There is much to do and see with walking and cycling in the area. Pub accommodation is also available in many of these areas.

Accommodation in Marlborough comprises a plentiful supply of bed and breakfasts in the area, some on working farms and many of which have English Tourist Board four star rating and for those seeking a base from which to explore the town and surrounding countryside there is attractive self-catering holiday cottage accommodation at reasonable prices available. There are also two nearby campsites accommodation close to the town.

Included in our selection of are the small friendly campsite at Church Farm at Mildenhall and the larger at the Savernake Forest which is managed by the Forestry Commission (forest holidays). For further information concerning Marlborough please click on the link below.
