Fun for all the family is one of the many reasons that families with young, and not so young children flock to Wiltshire every year.

While Wiltshire is well known for its history, there are a great many things that everyone can do on holiday here, especially the younger generations. From visiting museums to visiting historical monuments, or simple enjoying the delights of the great outdoors, kids can really enjoy getting involved in everything that there is to do.

Wilshire is also the home of Europe’s first safari park at Longleat, which was opened to the public in 1966. The decision to open the first drive-through safari park outside Africa initially caused concern amongst those in the zoological world, but over 40 years after it first opened, the park is seen as a successful attraction in the region. It has housed many different species of animal, including cheetahs, lions, rhinos and giraffes, and is visited by thousands of families each year.

For something a little more ‘arty’, why not visit the Salisbury Arts Centre, which can be found near the centre of the city in St Edmund’s church building, which is also a Grade 2 listed building. The centre is run by the community, for the community and regularly holds exhibitions, shows, gigs and special film screenings. There is also a café on site, which serves a variety of meals, snacks, cakes and teas.

In terms of outdoor pursuits, Wiltshire is a prime location for cycling, walking, horse-riding and golf, in one of three golf clubs, which offer courses for beginners. Indoor activities are also very popular in Wilshire, and if the weather is too cold for outdoors activities, there are three leisure centres available to locals and holidaymakers, which provide a range of sporting activities, such as swimming and tennis. Horse-riding is also a very popular activity with holidaymakers, and the Grovely Riding Centre is a well-established and respected riding centre that offers classes to people of all ages. Formed 50 years ago, the centre specialises in going on rides around the countryside and over the famous rolling chalk downs.
