Description

Set on the Kennet-Avon Canal - Adrian and June welcome you to the Barge Inn. Listed in the top 100 Country Pubs in Britain supplement by The Guardian newspaper for 2008 the Barge Inn has a long and colourful history.

It was built in 1810 to coincide with the opening of the Kennet and Avon Canal. Alongside the waterway it prospered with both commercial and passenger traffic.

The bar is open from 1130am to 1100pm Monday to Friday, open till midnight on Saturday and 1200noon to 1100pm on Sundays. There is a choice of 3 ales.

Food is served daily from 12noon till 2.30pm and 7pm to 9pm.

Boating
There are 24 hr visitor moorings immediately outside the pub sufficient for 6 or more boats with a water point and rubbish disposal facilities. Pump-out facilities, gas, diesel and other boating requisites can be found just to the east of the bridge at George Gibson's Boat Services, Old Builders Wharf, Honeystreet, Pewsey, Wilts, SN9 5PS.

Coarse Fishing
The Kennet & Avon Canal provides excellent coarse fishing (close season March 15th - June 16th) and is well stocked with common, mirror and crucian carp as well as roach, perch and tench. Fishing from the towpath is controlled by Devizes Angling Association. There are also a number of private lakes in the area.

Caravan Site
The campsite is open from Good Friday until October (or before if weather bad).
Facilities:- Shower and toilet block. Sorry, no electric hook-up.
Cost:- £4 per night per person.
No bookings, simply check in at the bar on arrival.
Large campsite (over an acre).
Dogs are welcome but must be on a lead and their droppings picked up and disposed of correctly.
We also welcome motorcyclists.
