Description
The White House is set on the edge of the picturesque village of Little Bedwyn and the gardens border on the towpath of the Kennet and Avon canal . Beyond the canal is the main railway linking London with Exeter and the West Country. A 5 minute car ride will bring you to the well connected railway station of Great Bedwyn.Cycling, walking or touring you can be sure of a warm welcome. Annie and Christopher Nicholl have extensively renovated The White House, part of which dates back to early Georgian times (1720), to include two luxurious en-suite shower rooms and offers the very best of Bed and Breakfast accommodation to their guests.
Full English or Continental breakfast is served (at a time of your choosing) in the Conservatory or Dining Room and whenever possible local and fair trade produce is supplied.
An evening meal option is available at additional cost by prior arrangement.
The area is particularly attractive and steeped in history. The World Heritages sites of Stonehenge and Avebury circles are within easy reach by car as is Silbury Hill and Marlborough. Iron Age hillforts, ancient burial mounds, abound throughout the county of Wiltshire. More ’modern’ historical artefacts such as Crofton Pumping Station, the oldest working steam-driven Beam Engine in the country and the Wilton (village) windmill is close by and well worth a visit.
There are a wide choice of inns and restaurants in the area and the acclaimed Harrow Inn is literally on the doorstep.
