Devizes is a very attractive medieval town brimming with history and interest. It is a fifteen minute walk from the Stables into town and there is also a bus stop nearby. The Wiltshire Heritage Museum in Long Street Devizes houses the best Bronze Age archaeology collection in Britain and a Visitor Centre at Wadworths Brewery are well worth visiting. Canal trips during the summer months depart from Devizes Wharf on the Kennet and Avon Canal in the town and the Canal Museum at Devizes Wharf forms the focus of a busy and lively summer scene. An easy walk west along the canal towpath takes you to the top of a spectacular flight of twenty nine canal locks descending Caen Hill. This flight of locks descends 237 feet over a distance of two miles. These are just some of the attractions on your doorstep. The Stables at East Lodge Farm makes an ideal centre to explore Wiltshire from the World Heritage Site of Stonehenge and the cathedral city of Salisbury in the south to the Cotswolds in the north.
