The medieval town of Devizes lies at the heart of the county. It is not only full of historical interest, having the highly rated Wiltshire Heritage Centre, but makes an excellent centre for exploring Wiltshire.
Walking and cycling routes abound throughout the area. The Kennet and Avon Canal, with its spectacular flight of 29 canal locks at Caen hill passes through the town then meanders east through the famous White Horse country and the Vale of Pewsey.
The beautiful city of Bath with its excellent shopping, Bradford on Avon, Marlborough, picturesque Lacock with its historic Abbey, the numerous small historic Wiltshire Weaving towns and villages are all easily reached.
The World Heritage stone circles of Avebury and Stonehenge, Longleat stately home and Safari Park are well worth visiting as is the city of Salisbury with its stunning cathedral and spectacular spire in the south of the county.
