Description
At a modest cost a visit to the Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum provides the perfect day out for both family and motor enthusiasts alike.Show the children what their parents or grandparents drove in the ‘olden days’ and rekindle memories of bygone days when British cars were a byword for the latest engineering and design.
The museum has a fine collection of vintage, pre-war, post-war (both modern and classic) as well as a strong representation of post-war American classics such as a 1961 Plymouth Fury and a 1967 Cadillac de Ville.
You are likely to be greeted by Richard or Hasell, the founders of the collection who will be only too pleased to answer any questions you might have. A nice touch is the full history of many of the vehicles complete with log books, invoices, photographs and other memorabilia.
All in all, a visit to the Atwell-Wilson museum is a step back into a vanished era. This collection has been built up with loving care and affection over many years and it is this that brings the whole collection to life. These are not just ‘old cars’ but someone’s pride and joy in the days when owning a car really was something and ‘the freedom of the open road’ was there to be enjoyed and not merely tolerated as it is today. Driving was an exploration, not a chore, and motorists were kindred spirits. You can recapture this especially when you are able to meet such interesting enthusiasts as Richard and Hasell.
The Museum has easy access and toilet facilities for the disabled. Coach parties and groups are most welcome and special group discounts are available. Light refreshments in our Tea Room can also be provided by prior arrangement.
The museum is a charitable trust and you can be sure that your entrance fee will be put to good use in maintaining and expanding this beautiful collection for future generations.
The Museum is open every Sunday through Thursday, (except Christmas Day). It also opens on Good Friday. During the summer the opening hours are 11.00am to 5.00pm, changing to 11.00am to 4.00pm in the winter.
ADULTS £5.00
CHILDREN £1.00
The Museum is located in a very beautiful part of Wiltshire, within easy reach of the many ancient attractions of this rural part of old England. The Museum also gives direct access to the beautiful Water meadows walk, dating from the 17th century.
