Hotels near The New Forest are mostly close to or within the main population centres of Southampton, Salisbury Ringwood and a few within the Forest itself.
The New Forest is designated a National Park, one of twelve in England and Wales and is bounded by the counties of Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire. Hampshire towns within the New Forest are Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, Fordingbridge. A former royal hunting area the forest was created in 1079 by William 1 (known as William the Conqueror) who had the temerity to invade England in 1066 which he did very successfully. Today this comprises an unspoilt tract of heathland and forest, perfect for all manner of leisure activities, a place to unwind and relax.
On the Hampshire and Wiltshire border, ten miles from Salisbury and on the edge of the forest is the Woodfalls Inn. Salisbury cathedral city is one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Southern England and as well as being within easy reach of the New Forest has a wide range of hotels, restaurants, bars and shops. You will not fail to be impressed by the cathedral spire soaring 123m (404 ft) above the city and visible for miles around.
