Hotels near The New Forest are mostly close to or within the main population centres of Southampton, Salisbury Ringwood and a few within the Forest itself.

The New Forest is designated a National Park, one of twelve in England and Wales and is bounded by the counties of Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire. Hampshire towns within the New Forest are Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, Fordingbridge. A former royal hunting area the forest was created in 1079 by William 1 (known as William the Conqueror) who had the temerity to invade England in 1066 which he did very successfully. Today this comprises an unspoilt tract of heathland and forest, perfect for all manner of leisure activities, a place to unwind and relax.

On the Hampshire and Wiltshire border, ten miles from Salisbury and on the edge of the forest is the Woodfalls Inn. The Woodfalls is a traditional and welcoming English inn with a restaurant, 11 ensuite rooms, popular bar and a conservatory with friendly and helpful staff. There are a wide selection of dishes available daily in the restaurant with a carvery on Sundays.

Other accommodation to be recommended on the edge of the forest is The Fountains Inn in the pretty village of Whiteparish. This traditional English inn has an excellent restaurant and cosy bar with an open fire in winter and a pretty garden to enjoy in the summer. Another choice is the New Forest Lodge which is well set back from the main Southampton to Salisbury road. Just one mile from the edge of the New Forest within the National Park it is within easy reach of the Southampton and the medieval cathedral city of Salisbury. The onsite Royal Jaipur Indian restaurant and bar has been refurbished to provide a delicious range of dishes in contemporary surroundings. The Landford Poacher, a traditional pub serves a range of good food is within a short walk. This independent 4-star guest accommodation has 14 rooms available with wi-fi access available.

Salisbury cathedral city is one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Southern England and as well as being within easy reach of the New Forest has a wide range of hotels, restaurants, bars and shops. You will not fail to be impressed by the cathedral spire soaring 123m (404 ft) above the city and visible for miles around.

Many hotels near The New Forest are to be found in the city itself which boasts a wide selection of accommodation on offer. There are several old and well established hotels in the city itself but parking does present a problem.

In a very quiet location close to the centre in its own ground overlooking the River Avon is the Legacy Rose and Crown. Recently refurbished this 13th century coaching inn is in an idyllic location on the river with cathedral views. Less than ten minutes level walk to the city centre this riverside hotel with many of its original features lovingly restored has the benefit of parking within its grounds. Another riverside hotel also overlooking the cathedral and a little further out is the Old Mill at Harnham.
